Mr. Gregory Martin was born in Detroit, Michigan on July 15, 1966, to the union of Julian McKinley Martin, Jr. and Bernice Martin. He was the 4th of five children.
He was a member of Central Baptist Church where he served faithfully, later joining True Worship Baptist Church.
He was educated in the Detroit Public School System. He obtained employment with the City of Detroit through various service contracts. He later relocated to LaGrange, Georgia where he held various local jobs with Interface, Over the Top Laundromat, and Industrial Warehouse Painting, via temp services. Gregory was always very eager to provide his services to earn extra income.
Gregory was always quite humorous, fun-loving with an undisputed love for his family. He always exhibited that phenomenal caring heart to most people he encountered. He had an extra-fondness for young children and always display that smile that could light up a room. He loved to be called “The Governor” then give various stories of how he came about that name. I know we all will miss the self imposed alter-ego of “The Governor” and those larger than life stories he could tell. I would be remiss, not to mention his long time love and companion, the late Ms. Shirley Kate Mason, his solid rock that he could count on through all the stormy trials and tribulations of life.
Gregory passed away Sunday, August 18, 2013. He was preceded in death by two loving and devoted grandmothers, Mrs. Mattie Pearl Bable and Mrs. Elease Martin, both of LaGrange, Georgia.
He leaves to cherish his memories, his parents, Julian McKinley Martin, Jr. Detroit, MI; Bernice Martin, LaGrange; two sisters: Kathy E. Martin, Detroit, MI; and Sonya (Trevor) Martin-Howard, Atlanta, GA; two brothers, Julian McKinley Martin, III, Detroit, MI; and Jeffery Martin, Fairburn, GA; three nieces, India T.
